Minister of Energy Inaugurates Al-Luj Water Station Following Rehabilitation of Water and Operational Systems to Serve 300,000 Beneficiaries in Jabal al-Zawiya, Idlib Countryside
Minister of Energy Eng. Mohammed Al-Bashir inaugurated the Al-Luj water station in the Jabal al-Zawiya area of ​​the Idlib countryside today. The inauguration was attended by Idlib Governor Mr. Mohammed Abdul Rahman; Assistant Minister of Energy for Water and Electricity Affairs Eng. Osama Abu Zaid; Director General of the General Establishment for Drinking Water and Sanitation Eng. Taher Al-Omar; and Director of the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Idlib Eng. Ibrahim Al-Yamani. The event followed the completion of rehabilitation works covering various components of the project's water system.
The station recently underwent extensive rehabilitation, including work on wells, pumping stations, reservoirs, and pumping and distribution lines. These efforts involved the participation of several humanitarian organizations—such as Goal, World Vision, and Amal, alongside the Syrian Arab Red Crescent—and the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Idlib, successfully restoring the project's water system to full operational readiness.
The work included reactivating 19 wells, each with an average flow rate of approximately 50 cubic meters per hour, as well as rehabilitating solar power systems and connecting the stations to the public electrical grid. These measures enhance operational stability and improve the reliability of water supplies for more than 35 villages and towns, serving an estimated 300,000 beneficiaries in the Jabal al-Zawiya area of ​​the Idlib countryside.
The operation of the Al-Luj water project marks a pivotal step in stabilizing water supplies in Jabal al-Zawiya by restoring the pumping and distribution system to full operational capacity. Ensuring the efficient and continuous delivery of safe drinking water to the villages and towns within the project's scope.
