Energy Minister Inaugurates Busayda Water Station Following the Completion of Rehabilitation Works, Serving 130,000 Beneficiaries in Maarrat al-Nu’man
Energy Minister Eng. Mohammed al-Bashir today inaugurated the Busayda Water Station in the city of Maarrat al-Nu’man, Idlib countryside, in the presence of Idlib Governor Mohammed Abdul Rahman, Deputy Energy Minister for Water and Electricity Affairs Eng. Osama Abu Zeid, Director General of the General Establishment for Drinking Water and Sanitation Eng. Taher al-Omar, and Director General of the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Idlib Eng. Ibrahim al-Yamani. The inauguration followed the completion of rehabilitation works that restored the station’s water and operational systems to full readiness across all their components.
In recent months, the station has undergone a series of rehabilitation works covering wells, reservoirs, lifting stations, pumping and water transmission lines, with contributions from international humanitarian organizations, including UNICEF, World Vision, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in addition to efforts by the General Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation in Idlib. These efforts restored the water system to full operational readiness.
The rehabilitation works at Busayda Water Station included equipping 12 wells with submersible pumps, metal pipes, and pumping lines; installing horizontal pumps, electrical panels, and a 2,000-kilowatt transformer station; replacing and rehabilitating 5,400 meters of the pumping line supplying the Hamidiya reservoir; and carrying out maintenance on the water network in Maarrat al-Nu’man. The works also included installing a partial solar power system and connecting the station to the public electricity grid, helping ensure operational stability and improve the reliability of water supply.
The project benefits approximately 130,000 people in Maarrat al-Nu’man. The operation of Busayda Water Station will strengthen the stability of water supply and improve the efficiency of water delivery to residents by restoring the pumping and distribution system to operational readiness, ensuring the efficient provision of safe drinking water to the areas served by the station.
