Water Sector Management at the Ministry of EnergyThe Ministry of Energy oversees the management of the water sector through a system of specialized institutions and authorities that operate in an integrated manner to ensure the sustainability of water resources and the development of infrastructure. This system includes:The General Establishment for Drinking Water and Sanitation:The entity responsible for managing drinking water and wastewater services across all governorates. It supervises 13 water and sanitation companies, in addition to their affiliated economic units. The establishment is also tasked with operating water treatment plants and ensuring the quality and continuity of services.The General Authority for Water Resources:Responsible for the integrated management of water resources in the governorates, including water sources and agricultural irrigation systems. Its mandate also covers dam management, monitoring surface and groundwater resources, developing monitoring systems, and managing water basins to ensure rational use of resources and achieve a balance between consumption and production.The General Establishment of the Euphrates Dam:Responsible for managing the three dams on the Euphrates River, ensuring a balance between hydroelectric power generation and the provision of water for agriculture and other uses. It also plays a key role in regulating water flows and ensuring the sustainability of water resources.Water Sector Regulatory Directorate:Tasked with formulating public policies and strategies, issuing licenses, and defining the general framework for sector development, while ensuring alignment with national development plans.Through these institutions, the Ministry works to strengthen national water security and develop sustainable solutions to address challenges, reinforcing the role of the water sector as a fundamental pillar of economic and social development. This reflects the state’s commitment to providing water and sanitation services with high quality and efficiency.
